Identity Transformation

Are you one of the millions of people looking for the “magic bullet” to life? You know, the one shot that will change your life magically into the life you deserve? The life you would enjoy living? Are you someone who wonders how you can make your life easier? Better? Happier? Healthier? Happier?

Or, are you depressed about life? Wishing and hoping that something would change but you don’t have the inclination to do anything? Are you drained by the demands of your life right now?

Are you confused about life? Too many “talking heads” pointing you here, there and everywhere to find happiness and satisfaction? You’re tired of chasing rainbows?

Are you just exhausted about life? Pushing, pushing, always pushing to expand the dimensions of your lifestyle, your assets, your possibilities? You’ve tried everything you know how but nothing seems to make a difference.

BREATHE . . .

Has your “need” to strive for celebrity life standards turned you into someone you’re NOT in order to survive your life in the 21st century America? Human survival has required people for millennia to surrender to the demands of the environments they inhabit. Most of the requirements to survive “civilized” cultures have been simpler than the complexities we’re dealing with today – worldwide information 24/7, life changing discoveries and new creations made daily. One problem with all these activities and distractions is NOT knowing what your real values in life are. Today you get to determine who you want to be, what you want to do and to have so you can live the life that gives you satisfaction, not just survival. But, people continue to operate with a survival mindset.

Your life questions have always been: “Who do you want to be? What do you want to do? What do you want to have in your life?” These questions have haunted you persistently since your formative days. You worked the process of creating an identity as you developed. In kindergarten you wanted to be a fireman or policeman because you were learning about community helpers. Later in school you want to be a teacher or coach because you were having experiences of both. Maybe you wanted to be just like Mom or Dad, Aunt or Uncle, people you had in your family circle. The point is this – you were looking outside yourself for your answers to your questions instead of within. Counselors, professors, test results, applications nudged you this way and that until you reached the legal adult age at which time you were expected to begin life, be responsible for life and survive the best you could.

You learned all the frameworks of life: family, community, government, education, health, money and people, but little of the details. Every day your life has been a discovery expedition in which each day, bit by bit, goal by goal, person by person, life has revealed its’ workings to you.

Although geometry taught you that “the shortest distance between two points is a straight line,” the life you live has twists, turns, knots, low lights and highlights. Are you are still trying to operate your life by finding the shortest distance between two points? When life gave you the first curve, did you give up on your goals?

Notice that not much about how life really works is discussed because no one really knows. Life is constantly changing, evolving, expressing herself in ways that delight and challenge us to adapt and change too.

BREATHE . . .

The first question to ask yourself: Is it the time for you to discover who you really are? Who you want to be? What you want to do? What you want to have? Is it time for a SELF-RENOVATION? A SELF MAKEOVER? a SELF-UPGRADE? A NEW DIRECTION for you and your life?

The second question to ask yourself: Is it time for you to discover how life really works? Time to learn what you really value? What do you want in life? Interestingly, most people have difficulty distinguishing what they WANT from what they NEED. And, most people are not clear or specific about what they want or need to SATISFY themselves.

The third question to ask yourself: Is it time for you to discover how to break out of the cage of your limitations and use universal laws of life to change your Self and your experience of life? How do I CHANGE my Self in order to BE, DO and HAVE what I decide I want and need?

Truthful answers to these 3 questions will invariably change your identity and your life. To see your Self and your ability to create your life from a new perspective, to consciously and deliberately exercise your power to create your Self and your life based on your values and to consciously and deliberately offer your contributions to support and give a hand up to others is the beginning of self-actualization.

According to scientists and human wisdom, you are made up of 4 levels of energies: Spiritual, Mental, Emotional, Physical. Yet, most people are not experts re: their own bodies, their own mind, their own emotions, their own spiritual connections. Most people spend the majority of their time and mental/emotional energy navigating the exterior world to survive life. Most likely your answers to the question "Who do you want to be?" are external. If your identity is wrapped up with your roles and job skills, you may not know who you really are or who you really want to be in your life.

At the most fundamental level of every human heart sounds the note of freedom to be, a yearning to expand the Self to be more, to do more, to have more. But, we suspend our urge to be in order to deal with the energies, circumstances, events and people in the present life. We postpone our true being, doing and having we desire, telling ourselves we don’t have the time or the money or the energy to change our Self or circumstances. And we stagnate, waiting for life to direct our choices.

Being true to your Self in life is an internal satisfaction. Living life on your terms is the freedom to be, do and have what you truly value, not what other forces are telling you to value. Being true to the Self is the greatest wealth you can ever have.

BREATHE . . .

YOU ARE THE CREATOR OF YOUR LIFE, period. Whatever foundation and operating principles about life you learned from parents, family, teachers, friends, books, etc. up to this point in your life has made you what and who you are today because you accepted the information presented. What if you could flip your perspective so that YOU hold the power, not circumstances, not other people, not your history? You can.

BREATHE . . .

Changing your identity is a familiar process. You have changed your identity at least 6 times in your life: Fetus, Infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult – young adult, middle aged, older adult, senior adult. You have changed “roles” and “labels” many, many more times. You have added skills to define who you are being, you have labeled your Self by your religion, your sports practice, your vocations, your birth order, your addictions, your gender, your sexuality, your preferences, etc. in ways that your culture, your family, your friends, your media – tv, songs, games, have told you to identify. But, the labels or the roles are not who you are, but the costuming you wear to present yourself to the world of exchange, comparison, judgment.

Have you really ever stopped to determine who you are in your heart of hearts? Based on the “content of your character”? Or are you still allowing other people to tell you who to be, what to do, what to have? “KNOW THYSELF” is the wisdom promoted by Socrates and Plato. “The Ancient Greek aphorism ‘know thyself’, is one of the Delphic maxims and was inscribed in the pronaos of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi according to the Greek writer Pausanias.” Wikipedia
